Reason this role is for you: Our client is a venture-backed company that delivers a mobile app testing platform to accelerate delivery and testing of mobile apps. As the Director of Technical Operations, your three areas of responsibility are data center infrastructure and networking, cloud management, and equipment procurement & inventory management.

You will be responsible for planning and implementing the data center roadmap to support reliable delivery of services and to scale the infrastructure to support business growth. This responsibility covers both the physical data center infrastructure and management of cloud based AWS. Additional responsibilities include overseeing procurement and budget management for equipment to support data center and customer on-premise use and management of the related inventory.

This role leads the infrastructure operations of the data centers and is responsible for the effective and successful management of staff, productivity, quality control and safety measures as established and set for the Data Center Infrastructure team. We have data centers in the United States, and locations in Europe, Asia, and a technical operations warehouse. This position oversees teams working on-site at the Atlanta data center hub and in the technical operations warehouse in Metro Atlanta. Frequent on-site presence is required.

The responsibilities include defining team member roles, responsibilities and performance metrics; interviewing, selecting and hiring new employees; training new and existing employees; planning, assigning and directing work; authoring and discussing performance management processes with employees; addressing employee performance and corrective action plans; supporting employee progression and advancement; and managing the data center staff budget and equipment procurement budget.


  • Recruit, select, train, assign, schedule, and supervise employees and contractors for the Data Center Infrastructure team and Procurement team.
  • Set and communicate roles & responsibilities, performance metrics; planning, monitoring, appraising and reviewing job contributions.
  • Contribute data center operations information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; prepare and complete action plans; implement productivity, quality and customer-service standards; resolve problems; complete audits; identify and plan for trends
  • Prepare an annual budget for data center hardware, mobile devices, data center colocation, and data center staff; schedule expenditures; analyze variances; initiating corrective actions
  • Develop, implement, enforce and evaluate policies and procedures; develop processes for receiving product, equipment utilization, inventory management and shipping
  • Analyze process workflow, employee and space requirements and equipment layout; implement changes
  • Maintain safe and healthy work environment by establishing, following and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations
  • Responsible for all department managers and supervisors, with review/approval responsibility for all data center operations employees
  • Manage relationships with key data center operations vendors
  • Track vendor pricing and service levels
  • Review and approve all data center operations invoices and ensure they are submitted for payment
  • Serve as the primary point of escalation for customer issues related to the data center infrastructure and procurement
  • Communicate customer issues with operations team and devise ways of improving the customer experience, including triaging, remediating and permanently resolving problems and customer complaints
  • Work closely with the management team to set and/or implement policies, procedures and systems and to follow through with implementation
  • Communicate operating policies, issues, and status against goals at company and department meetings
  • Work closely with the inventory team to perform analysis of our inventory and ensure we are utilizing our inventory effectively, purchasing the right equipment, and maintaining solid inventory data
  • Communicate with legal counsel and safety department to ensure all processes remain compliant with OSHA and other governmental regulations
  • Write plans to support the business needs, even in the case of a disaster, including preparing and testing disaster recovery plans and business continuity plans for the data centers

Required Skills:

  • At least 10 years of experience in data center operations or systems operations, familiarity with operating Mac OS and Linux, and network design and administration
  • Experience leading a Data Center Technical Operations team through an expansion
  • Comfortable managing a budget for AWS cloud spending
